The wheelchair
is where we
start.
Isolation is the real disability in rural Busoga. Every unit we build is a way back into school, work, market, and community life.
5.2% of Busoga residents live with self-care difficulty, the highest rate in Uganda.UBOS 2024. Most of it is invisible until you look at who stays home.
An imported wheelchair with thin tires and plastic parts lasts weeks on our roads. When it breaks, there is no local part to fix it with, and the isolation returns.
We build differently: for the terrain we actually have, with materials we can actually replace, delivered alongside a carpentry skilling program so recipients can earn a living from the same craft that made their chair.
Our goal by 2029 is 37,500 units across the Busoga subregion, and a network of local carpenters trained to keep every one of them rolling.
