Wheels of Equity started inside Wheels of Equity, a community-based organisation working across the Busoga subregion. The workshop sits in Kamuli District, staffed by carpenters who grew up on the same roads their wheelchairs will roll on.
Every finished chair is also a job. Recipients go through a carpentry skilling program alongside receiving their wheelchair.
That is deliberate. A wheelchair changes how far someone can travel. A skill changes what they can build once they get there. We treat both as part of the same repair.
